Cathedral and historic ruins in the heart of Bury St Edmunds. This is one of the most revered religious buildings in the St Edmundsbury district. It is a grand, large cathedral with a striking 150ft Gothic style lantern tower and an adjacent 12th Century Norman tower, which houses the bells. It gained cathedral status in 1914 and is considered to be at the heart of Suffolk's religious community. The remains of the Abbey lie just behind in the beautiful Abbey Gardens with its impeccably kept flowerbeds, green lawns, sculptures and a shrine of St Edmund.
